FAA Warns of Delays/Flight Reductions Due to Controller Shortage. The FAA is being forced to reduce flight volume or issue ground delays at some airports. Be aware that your flight itself may be impacted, in addition to airport security lines.
The government shutdown is disrupting flights, travelers, and passport services as essential staff (TSA, controllers) are impacted. Here are essential tips for navigating the delays:

Arrive Much Earlier. Premium Status Won’t Save You.This is not the time to cut it close. Security lines have hit 3-hour waits at some airports due to checkpoint closures. Don’t rely on priority lanes, as they may also be closed.

Expect Passport Delays; Global Entry Halted. Expect significant delays for passport processing. Note: New applications for Global Entry are completely suspended.

Check Apps and Social Media. Use your airline’s app (for rebooking) and the FAA’s delay map. Also, search social media for your airport to see real-time “live” reports on crowds.

Monitor Official Channels. Use your airline’s app, check the FAA delay map, and monitor social media for real-time airport conditions. Check the DOT’s Delay Dashboard to see what airlines must provide for cancellations or long delays.
A little preparation goes a long way.
Being ready and staying patient can make all the difference.
Stay informed, and have a safe and smart journey!
