Travel Alert: 2026 Hotel Blackout Dates & Travel Trends

Last Updated : 02/23/2026

As we approach the planning phase for 2026, Kintetsu International wants to ensure you stay ahead of the curve regarding Hotel Blackout Dates.

What is a Blackout Date?

A blackout date is a period when hotels experience peak demand due to major events, holidays, or local festivals.
During these times:

  • Loyalty rewards and points are restricted.
  • Promotional rates and discounts are unavailable.
  • Kintetsu’s preferred corporate rates are often suspended.

In 2026, the primary driver for these restrictions across the U.S. will be the FIFA World Cup.

🏆 The 2026 Game Changer: FIFA World Cup

With the U.S. hosting matches in 11 major cities, hotel availability will be at an all-time low. We are already observing average rate surges of over 300% during match weeks in host cities.

Host Cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle.

📍 2026 City-Specific Blackout & High-Demand Dates

Based on current industry data, the following windows are expected to be highly restricted. We recommend avoiding these dates if your travel plans are flexible:

New York City

  • Sept 18–26: UN General Assembly
  • Nov 27–Dec 31: Holiday Season
Boston

  • June 12–13, 15–19, 22–23, 25–26
Dallas

  • Feb 3–5
  • June 12–July 14: FIFA World Cup matches
Houston

  • March 22, April 22, July 28 (Major Stadium Events)
San Antonio

  • Feb 13–14 (Valentine’s)
  • March 6–14 (Spring Break)
  • April 24–25 (Fiesta)
San Francisco

  • March 23–25
  • Sept 14–16
Los Angeles

  • June 10–11
  • June 18–28: FIFA World Cup matches
  • July 1–4 & July 9–11

🗓️ Standard 2026 Holiday Blackouts

Most major U.S. hotel chains apply blackout dates for the following holidays:

  • New Year’s: Jan 1
  • President’s Day: Feb 12–16
  • Easter / Spring Break: Mar 30–Apr 6
  • Memorial Day: May 25
  • Independence Day: July 4
  • Labor Day: Sept 7
  • Thanksgiving: Nov 25–28
  • Christmas: Dec 25–26
