Previously, each of the more than 10 affiliates across the United States of automotive company A cooporation used a variety of travel agencies and online reservations, each with its own travel policy. Some of the companies had no travel policies, and employees made their own travel arrangements as they pleased. Each company had no idea which airlines or hotels were being used and how much. In addition, although each company had some discount contracts for hotels and rental cars, they did not negotiate discounts for the group as a whole. Group company B was flying business class at full fare, while group company C was flying business class at half the price.

By incorporating travel policies and discounts into the online reservation system, the company was able to reduce travel costs for each traveler. One year after implementation, the company has realized an 11% reduction in overall business travel costs.
